VEDA's cosmic nail

When I saw butter LONDON's contributions to New York Fashion Week for S/S 2013, I just had to try out the mani they did to compliment VEDA's line. First off, I would highly recommend checking out VEDA's ready to wear line they did for this season. The punk tie-dye look had a gritty yet futuristic feel and butter LONDON's lead manicurist Katie Hughes did an excellent job harnessing it in her cosmic nails.

For my replication of this look I started with a coat of butter LONDON's Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat. Instead of using Sloan Ranger, the color Katie used for the VEDA show, I used a color new to my butter collection--Teetotal. This Ulta exclusive is a beautiful mocha brown color, and I painted two coats of it on every nail except for the accent nail where I painted two coats of Toff. Next using Union Jack Black, I painted a strip on each nail starting a quarter of the way down the nail, moving up the the tip. I finished it with a coat of SV topcoat. The black trip was rather unexpected and, attracted a lot of attention from people I interacted with. The overall response to the design was positive, and I in particular loved it.
This design is pretty simple to execute yet creates a dramatic look. Try painting a slightly wider strip of a glitter polish (like butter's Knackered) before painting the black stripe for an even more cosmic look!

Cheers
