snakebite

The goal of this look was to create a snakeskin pattern on my nails. Whether or not I was successful in that is up to you. Perhaps if I had used greens or more neutral colors the look would have translated better, but I wanted to try a more exotic approach.

For this look I applied one coat of butter LONDON's nail foundation flawless basecoat, followed by two coats of butter's Scoundrel--a beautiful purple-mauve color. Next using a metal styling tool, I painted the diamond pattern on each nail used butter's Knackered. I selected Knackered because of it's color changing effect. The glitter pigments in the polish change from hues of purple, to green making it a very appropriate color for imitating the scales of a snake. Finished off with a coat of P.D. Quick Topcoat, I rather liked the way they turned out.

What actually served as the inspiration for the design was one I had done a few days before. Earlier I had painted my nails with one of my absolute favorite butter LONDON shades, Tramp Stamp, and then experimented with painting dots on my thumb and accent finger using Urban Outfitter's Admission (it looks like molten gold and I adore it). After I had had it on my nails for a while I thought the dotting pattern resembled snakeskin, and decided it would be worth a try painting.

Happy Saturday!
