sherbet and aquamarine

One of my favorite sources of inspiration for nail art is from prints and patterns on clothes that I find in my closet. This particular look was mimicked from a sweater I bought from Mango when I was in Santa Monica. I was immediately drawn to the color pallet of the sweater--the sherbet orange and aquamarine. In addition, I really liked how this brought the tribal trend into the present by taking advantage of the Summer 2012 pastel trend. I thought this would make for a much softer tribal nail design and was eager to try it.

After applying my Butter London Nail Foundation, I applied two coats of Butter's Royal Ballet. This particular shade is appropriately named as it is identical to the color of point shoes that have been warn for a while. Unfortunately Royal Ballet is a discontinued color, but I was fortunate enough to stumble upon it when shopping on Melrose Avenue. Next, using China Galze's For Audrey, I painted the base of the tribal design in aquamarine. Once I finished that, I actually contemplated leaving the design as is--without the sherbet color. What do you think? Should I have left it here?

Well... i didn't ...and in order to follow the pattern on the sweater I painted the rest of the design using Illamasqua's Purity. I absolutely adore this color, and am actually sporting it on my toes right now. Once I finished painting that, I added a coat of SV topcoat for a nice clean finish. I don't think the pictures I took of the design do it justice. Photographed, the orange and beige sort of blend together--whereas in the light the orange pops a little more. As much as I love Royal Ballet, I probably should have used a lighter neutral for the design. What do you think? Is it a good spring take on tribal?
