Rock Your Color

Back in August butter LONDON launched their Rock Your Color campaign for their all new cosmetic line and I was one of the lucky few to get a sneak peak. The collection follows the core foundation of butter LONDON of rock 'n' roll, color, fashion and GB as evident by the electrifying shades and bold looks.
When I was pre-selected to test out their new products I was asked to fill out a style survey which funnily enough is why I think I ended up with mostly pink and black cosmetics. I usually go for a fresh face, but my friends can vouch that every once in a while I like to do something crazy or be a little bold with my styling. I have a feeling though that when I filled out my survey I leaned more toward the neutrals and thus ended up with a lot of pink which is ironic because i actually detest pink (maybe a little dramatic there). Anyway, the Rock Your Color collection features a variety of different shades and it just happens that the ones I got and thus will be previewing to you will mostly be of the pink, nude, and black variety. I was extremely excited to see this massive package from butter LONDON on my doorstep one day and cant wait to show you all the goodies I found inside! The collection (and thus my post) is broken down into three parts: Wink, Lippy, and Cheeky.

WINK
Eye Pencils, Cream Eye Shadows, and Mascara defined by butter as "Intense colors for the eye formulated to be incredibly blend-able and build-able. Use multiple products to layer color and create vivid gorgeous looks."

I was able to try the Wink eye pencil in two shades, Union Jack Black and Pistol Pink. The hard thing for me with testing out different cosmetics other than nail polishes is that I already have my establish favorites, so it is pretty hard to top my tried and true winners. I don't use pencil liners on the reg, but these went on surprisingly smooth--not quite urban decay smooth, but nice. They flaked a little but overall made pretty clean lines. Union Jack Black functions as your typical black eyeliner, nothing special really. Pistol Pink is shimmery hot pink, though it is slightly softer colored on flesh than it appears intact. The black will probably be put to good use and maybe if I'm feeling adventurous I might put a little pink under the eye sometime. The liner retails for $18 a pop so a little pricey if you ask me, but they are pretty good quality and if you are into the exotic colors it might be worth it for you.

My eyelashes are probably one of my absolute favorite physical features, at least all my eyelashes except the upper lefthand quadrant-but that's another story. Sadly, Mascara is the one beauty product that I will never be able to find the perfect specimen of but determinately keep looking for (sounds all to familiar to my success with men). Always excited to give a new mascara a shot, I was eager to see how butter's mascaras stacked up against my current go-to mascara combination of Maybelline's The Rocket and Illegal Length. Like the eye liners above, I was able to try the Wink mascara in both Union Jack Black and Pistol Pink. The applicator for both is pretty standard allowing for maximum lash coverage, but no special features. It took a few coats to get the normal amount of coverage I like and it was a little clumpy for my taste. It also flaked off a bit throughout its wear. I don't think I would use the black over any drugstore brands honestly, and the colored mascaras may be worth it if you have an occasion for it, but like I said pink isn't really my thing. Each mascara retails at $20 a tube.

The last Wink product I had the pleasure of previewing was the cream eyeshadow in...you guessed it...pistol pink! While the same shade as the mascara and liner, the shadow appears a bit softer in coloring, with less of the punky punch to it. The light pink shimmer was actually quite pretty on and lasted really well into the day. The only drawback of this one for me was the applicator. Personally, I am not a huge fan of cream based eyeshadows, especially with more lipgloss like applicators requiring an additional blending sponge or getting your hands dirty literally.

LIPPY
Tinted Balm, Gloss, and Liquid Lipstick defined by butter LONDON as "Colors and coverage for any occasion. The nourishing formula moisturizes and protects your lips, with Shea Butter and Vitamin E." I have actually done a review for butter LONDON Lippy products before, back when they first launched their liquid lipstick line (you can read that post here).

This is by far my favorite addition to butter LONDON's product line. The tinted lip balm is a medium coverage balm with just the right amount of color. It goes on smooth and soothing like chapstick, but adds enough color to your lips to enhance them as a lipstick would! I was able to test out Abbey Rose--ironic because im listening to the White Album on vinyl while I type up this post--which is a gorgeous, but subtle rosy neutral.   I had actually been in the market for a replacement for my long time go-to neutral lipstick from MAC and this tinted lip balm has easily filled the gap. Now all I need is a job and a paycheck so I can stock up on the other beautiful shades as they sell for $20 a tube.

Unlike the Liquid Lipstick Lippy that I had tested out before, this Lippy Lip Gloss is mostly sheer. I had the pleasure of testing out the shade Tipple, which in case you were wondering means to drink habitually so I suppose it's rather fitting that you habitually coat your lips with it. The first thing I noticed about the gloss is that the tube is fatter, more comfortable to grip and the applicator is nicer. The gloss itself is a sheer carnation pink and is a very nice consistency relative to many other lip glosses. While I like the Liquid Lipsticks for their gorgeous colors, I prefer the Lip Glosses when it comes to their flavoring and their consistency on the lips. Tipple is one of six different shades of sheer gloss currently offered in this butter LONDON collection. In addition, butter also has six shimmer glosses under the same line which just appear to have a hint of sparkle to them. Both the sheer and shimmer Lip Gloss retail for $20 a tube. As you can see in the terribly angled picture to the right, its a pretty clear gloss, but looks nice on.

CHEEKY
Cream Blush described by butter LONDON as a "Long lasting sheer cream formula designed to add a pop of color to your cheeks complimenting your look."

I have never been much of a blush wearer--probably because I usually have one permanently tattooed on my face either from sunburn (hello fair skin) or embarrassment. That being said, it doesn't mean I'm not open to trying them when one so conveniently, (and free of charge) lands in my lap. These Cheeky--love the name--cream based blushes are great quality and come in four beautiful shades. I was able to test Honey Pie, a neutral peach/pink. The color was great for my skin tone, and the formula felt really nice. Personally I am still a little more comfortable with powder than cream, but for a cream blush it was definitely a keeper. Each blush retails at $20.

Just when you thought we were done...
NAILS
A cosmetic launch wouldn't be compete without a few new signature nail polish colors (YAY) and they were kind enough to send one over with the rest of the goods--talk about generous (and you people wonder why I adore butter LONDON). They released a nail polish to go with each of the six main shades from the cosmetic collection: Inky Six, Indigo Punk, Brown Sugar, Jaded Jack, Pistol Pink, and the rebranded an old classic Union Jack Black. Keeping with the pink tradition, I got a bottle of Pistol Pink, an opaque magenta pink shimmer named as a nod to two of butter's favorite bands. To test it out, I started with a coat of butter LONDON's Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat and a coat of the light pink Teddy Girl. Next I painted two coats of Pistol Pink in an ovular shape a little ways from the base of the nail all the way to the tip. I finished it with a coat of SV topcoat for a glossy sheen. I like that the glitter of Pistol Pink isn't very grainy--it's more muted. The effect is actually very nice. For a pink I rather like it.

So if you have made it this far, God bless you! Thank you so much for sticking with me! I hope you enjoyed the review and maybe learned a little something new about butter LONDON's new cosmetics collection. What do you think? Worth trying anything out?
