Emerald Eyes

Talk about behind the times. Pantone has already come out with Spring 2014's color of the year, Dazzling Blue--something I am absolutely ecstatic about since it pretty much makes up the half of my wardrobe that isn't black. Regardless of my tardiness, I was so in love with both Sephora's collaboration with Pantone, and 2013's official color of the year, Emerald, that I had to include this review. If you were expecting kryptonite or that recently popular bright shade of green dubbed emerald, you may be disappointed. This nail polish shade from Sephora and Pantone Universe is spot on with the traditional light, bright green gemstone color with a hint of aqua tones. The polish itself goes on very smooth and only takes two coats for full coverage. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there are far fewer green shades of nail polish that look good on nails than there are actually in the market. This emerald shade however looked beautiful on and it's uniqueness generated a healthy bit of attention.

Retailing at $10 its a bit more pricey than your average polish yet an excellent quantity and quality for the price. Unfortunately it was a limited edition polish so it is a bit hard to come by now, but you can still purchase other emerald cosmetics, like the emerald eyeliner I bought, and a number of other beautiful Pantone polishes at Sephora. Side note: As you can see the emerald eyeliner really makes the green in the one eye pop. Yes my eyes are two different colors--not only am I aware, but I have a fond memory of a 7th grade science teacher referring to me as a mutant because of it...not that 7th grade girls are prone to self-confidence issues...but i digress.

After wearing the plain emerald for a few days, I decided to add a little something just to freshen the look up. I love the combination of emerald and gold--maybe thats my subconscious reminding me of some glamorous piece of jewelry I once saw or perhaps more likely its an aversion to the opposing slytherin-esque combination of emerald and silver--and decided to add a stripe of butter LONDON's The Full Monty along the side of each nail. I then added a coat of SV topcoat to seal it over so it would last a while longer. I thought it was an effective and simple way to update the look and add a little shimmer.

What do you think of the Pantone/Sephora collaboration? Thoughts on the 2013 and 2014 colors of the year?

  1. I like this years color but it seems like it wasn't really emphasized in the products that came out. Dazzling Blue sounds amazing, I'm hoping it's like cobalt :)
